How can the Citric Acid Cycle intermediate citrate be used to regulate the rate of ATP synthesis?

Citrate synthase is one of three irreversible enzymes in the TCA cycle, and is one of the control points for the cycle. The product, citrate, is an important molecule: it is used to regulate glycolysis (it inhibits phosphofructokinase).
