On the program Locked Up Abroad what was the significence of the roses?

On the National Geographic Channel "Locked Up Abroad" showed on 7/21(?)/08 and the Americcan girl locked up in the Bangladesh prison had tried to take some roses given to her on the trip home (she was going to try to smuggle drugs) and she says those roses played a big part in what happend to her. I didn't understand the significence of them. Does anybody know?
